The COVID-19 pandemic has been a trying time for all of us, and it has had a profound impact on our working life. But now you find yourself heading back to the office (at least part-time!) and thinking about connecting with your coworkers again.
If you have been given the exciting task of planning this year’s work Christmas party, don’t let the stress get to you! There is a lot to consider, but office Christmas parties are meant to be fun. With our handy checklist, you will be throwing that amazing party easily.
Budget
The first thing you need to think about is how much money you have in your budget. Is this fully funded by your company, or will the employees need to buy their own drinks? Decide early what your financial priorities are – if you choose a flashy venue, you may not be able to put as much money behind the bar.
Communication
Communication is key when party planning! Send out a Save the Date email as soon as you can, not just so people know when the party is, but so you can get a good idea of how many people will be in attendance.
Food and drink
When it comes to parties, the thing that people tend to talk about most (aside from how tipsy everyone got and that embarrassing thing your boss said) is the food and drink! It is clear that this is important, so make sure everyone is catered for. Check for special dietary requirements, and make sure those who abstain from alcohol have a tasty tipple, too.
Venue and travel
Office Christmas parties used to actually be based in the office, but you probably want to go further afield. While getting everyone out of the office environment is a great idea, make sure it is somewhere that everyone can get to and from comfortably, and that no one will be stranded paying exorbitant taxi fees. You may even want to put transport on.
Entertainment
Are you going with a festively themed party or something a little different? Whatever you want to aim for, ensure that there is some kind of entertainment. Whether this is games, a singer, some kind of raffle or Santa himself showing up, this can add some serious fun to your event!
Comfort levels
An added thing you might want to consider this year is how comfortable everyone is with being at a big event, given the events of the past eighteen months. Check-in with your colleagues and perhaps offer some virtual alternatives for those who might be a little less sure. Zoom events can still be part of your party planning!
